Barack Obama doesn’t understand (or, perhaps, does not respect) national security, not from the perspective of protecting and defending the United States of America. This is a big problem for us citizens and likely, for many visitors and certainly a concern to any and all Allies, from our current President as also any President: responsibility for national security is a primary duty of the President of the United States. (See “Presidential Powers and Duties” and “United States Presidential Roles and Responsibilities“.)
A President’s very Oath of Office requires him or her to swear to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America, and, among the primary duties of any President is to, therefore, protect the nation from foreign invasion. It’s not up to debate or an elective any President can decide to do or not do, it’s a primary requirement of the Office of the Presidency.
The Presidential Oath of Office, as set down in Article II, Section 1, of the US Constitution, reads:
I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.
The Constitution defines our nation, it is in essence what and who our nation is: the country and our country as a nation of laws, this is the Constitution and vice-versa.
Thus, the Presidential Oath of Office and why there’s an Oath at all, why it requires the pledge that it does. If any individual wins the Presidential election but disagrees with the Oath, then they should not swear to it and, then, should not become President. Obama seems to have been eager to “be” President but he frequently appears to find the terms to which he’s sworn to be inconvenient, disagreeable and even loathesome.
Obama has an issue with what and who the nation is as defined by our Constitution — thus, his reference to that document he’s sworn to uphold and defend as one that should be “changed” per cultural desires. It appears that Obama is at odds with the terms of that Oath of Office to which he swore.
All the parties, vacations, jaunts here and there to eat this and that and grab this one and that one and complain about Americans and the country itself, his appearance with sports and entertainment figures for more parties and yet little confidence in the job of Presidency beyond the egotistical claiming of the title and all those perks, it all adds up to a person in the Presidency, who took an Oath that, afterward, he does not really believe in — or swore to but didn’t do so in good faith. The Presidency is, after all, a job, a job that includes requirements to be fulfilled and not evaded, ignored or derelict and upholding and defending our Constitution is primary to that.
Thursday, July 01, 2010, Obama spoke from American University about “immigration” with more complaints about “Republicans” and obstacles in his way that again are Constitutional: “laws” that Obama deemed are “unenforceable” as per his speech revealed a man in the Presidency who admitted he could not perform his job as required of him, and, that he admitted that he didn’t, really, think his job could be carried out as per that Oath he’d taken. If he can’t enforce our “laws” then he can’t uphold his Oath and he can’t do his job. It’s really that blunt.
These are impeachable offenses.
But our borders are just too vast for us to be able to solve the problem only with fences and border patrols. It won’t work. Our borders will not be secure as long as our limited resources are devoted to not only stopping gangs and potential terrorists, but also the hundreds of thousands who attempt to cross each year simply to find work.”
As to those people who “attempt to cross each year simply to find work,” they are committing crimes. Whether or not they are in gangs, are terrorists as Obama reticently defines terrorists, they may be coming here to “work” but so are terrorists, gangs and other criminals. So simply coming here illegally to “work” does not mean that the crimes they commit (if but “only” their illegal entry or illegal presence here after expired visas) do not merit penalties under our laws, NOR does it mean that Obama’s Presidential duties vanish in relationship to their violations of our laws.
More from Obama’s speech:
…Obama dismissed the focus on a “border security first” approach, saying the system is too big to be fixed “only with fences and border patrols.” He advocated a comprehensive approach that would call on the government, businesses and illegal immigrants themselves to live up to their responsibilities within the law. Obama also wants to create a pathway to citizenship for the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants in the U.S; critics call it amnesty.
…(Immigration) reform that brings accountability to our immigration system cannot pass without Republican votes,” he said. “That is the political and mathematical reality.”
That portion as also ongoing portions of this same speech included Obama blaming “Republicans” for his own inactivity (or incompetence) just as he blames “Americans” and “the folks” (Americans) that he finds objectionable in one aspect or another in nearly all his complaining speeches here, there, wherever.
The nation — including the majority of Republicans as also many Democrats — doesn’t want “immigration reform” (code for “amnesty” for illegal aliens), they/we want our existing laws enforced. Rather than do his job, Obama used this July 01 speech appearance to, instead, ridicule and disrespect “Republicans” which can be easily translated to mean “Americans”. It’s the blame-shifting by Obama that is truly offensive, though he does frequently use “Republicans” and various other terms for American citizens for pejorative purposes to try to gain excuse for his own quagmires and ineptitude or refusal to act (as in the ongoing Gulf Oil Disaster — what action he’s taken has been to strongly discourage and disable many who would be otherwise working to remedy the ongoing problem).
Enforce the existing laws, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. Amnesty is not a right or privilege or even a response that the Constitution deems is due illegal aliens — the penalty for illegal aliens is usually deportation to first include incarceration if they are proven to have committed crimes additional to illegal entry and/or illegal overstay of visas.
We don’t need “immigration reform,” we need enforcement of existing laws with penalties applied to these ongoing crimes of illegal immigration as per the Constitution provides. Obama needs to enforce and uphold the Constitution and he’s refusing to do so.
The U.S. already allows millions of legal immigrants every year so there is already “a pathway to citizenship” in place (also per the Constitution) that millions of people from all over the world work to complete and do so year in, year out. We allow many more immigrants than some would prefer and looking around America’s major cities — where most immigrants initially settle — one can easily see that there is no limit to a large number of ongoing legal immigrants in this nation.
Obama has done little about illegal immigration, as to the ongoing illegal alien population in our midst and as to stopping the invasion of more. He and his Administration have pursued what they deem the “criminal class” among illegal aliens but they are simply chopping away at gangrene while ignoring the spread, if not denying that the gangrene spreading is even a concern. We’ve heard nothing from Obama except complaints about all that he “can’t” do or objects to doing.
What “stronger border” exists today is only due to the former President, George Bush, having increased during his Presidency the Border Patrol personnel numbers and equipping and Obama is using those increases to try to claim credit for today’s “stronger border”.
But, in reality, Obama has diminished border security and diminished funding and personnel numbers as to our Border Patrol, and, the Border Security Fence that was promised and funded by Congress from years ago — during President Bush’s second term — has never been built: the Obama Administration appears to have abandoned the project and who knows where the money committed to that goal has gone.
Obama’s edicts and ongoing statements, falling as surely flat as dried up autumn leaves.
