I saw “A History of Violence,” Monday. Hmmmm…the critics are on crack. I thought the film was so slow….so dreadful…I was expecting some huge twists and well…there weren’t.
Haven’t yet seen it — I haven’t been swayed enthusiastically by the trailers, either (so I take your opinion to heart).
On the other hand, I finally bought and viewed “Finding Neverland” and see what the sweet enthusiasm was about — Johnny Depp very well done in lead, production quality excellent at times, wanting otherwise (somewhat disappointed with that), story was wonderful but the conclusion was mystifying! Makes for an interesting, thoughtful film, no doubt. It left the mystical undefined to a point of discomfort to my view.
On the other hand, “Ladder 49,” which I’ve also just seen, brought tears to my eyes. A wonderful story, great performance by Joaquin Phoenix, great effects if not astounding.
As to both these titles, it’s so encouraging to see that great filmmaking is still being taken seriously.
