Truly remarkable images: Global Security hosts satellite images with ‘mouse over’ before and after sets from Indonesian areas affected by the December 26, 2004 tsunami.
Worst damaged and most horribly visible is Aceh, Sumatra.
From Global Security, as reported December 31, 2004 (and so the casualty numbers have changed upward since this information was available), “Aceh province is the single worst hit area, with more than 80 thousand casulty. U.N. relief coordinator Jan Egeland says the death toll is approaching 150 thousand. But he stressed that the world may never know how many people were actually killed.”
Thanks to Fox News for broadcasting earlier today some of these images.
