I AGREE WITH DOLE, and that is that John Kerry owes the nation and veterans an apology. Several apologies. Not to mention lucid explanations about his behaviors, but I know I’m not alone in assuming Kerry won’t be forthcoming about any of those. I doubt he’s got what it takes as to incentive and capability to confront the truth and I don’t write/conclude that cavalierly.
DOLE HITS KERRY FOR WAR COMMENTS
Monday, August 23, 2004
CRAWFORD, Texas — Former Republican Sen. Bob Dole suggested Sunday that John Kerry apologize for past testimony before Congress about alleged atrocities during the Vietnam War and joined critics of the Democratic presidential candidate who say he received an early exit from combat for “superficial wounds.”
Dole also called on Kerry to release all the records of his service in Vietnam.
Dole told CNN’s “Late Edition” that he warned Kerry months ago about going “too far” and that the Democrat may have himself to blame for the current situation, in which polls show him losing support among veterans.
“One day he’s saying that we were shooting civilians, cutting off their ears, cutting off their heads, throwing away his medals or his ribbons,” Dole said. “The next day he’s standing there, ‘I want to be president because I’m a Vietnam veteran. “Maybe he should apologize to all the other 2.5 million veterans who served. He wasn’t the only one in Vietnam,” said Dole, whose World War II wounds left him without the use of his right arm.
Dole added: “And here’s, you know, a good guy, a good friend. I respect his record. But three Purple Hearts and never bled that I know of. I mean, they’re all superficial wounds. Three Purple Hearts and you’re out.”
Another allegation is that Kerry was not under enemy fire as after-action reports say he was, an incident for which he received a Bronze Star, one of five medals earned in Vietnam.
“The after-action reports were written from Kerry’s spot reports from that day,” said Kerry critic Van Odell, also appearing on the same program. “None of us knew he even got the Bronze Star until more recently.” Associated Press. All rights reserved.

Meanwhile, earlier this morning on FOX News, Congressman John Adler, a Kerry apologist — apparently trying to promote the “President Bush should call the Swift Boat Veterans and ask them to stop running their ad” theme — was asked by FOX News why John Kerry didn’t call on moveon.org to stop running their numerous attack ads on President Bush.
Congressman Adler said that “MoveOn isn’t responsible for those ads” (laughter nationwide), that the ads were “made by people who…transmitted them in (MoveOn)”…
==>> MoveOn, however, hosted them, published them, promoted them, stuck their logo on them when they broadcast and promoted the ads on their website, paid for the broadcasts using the ads, for the media exposure and publicity about the ads, and, in effect, used the material as moveon.org content which makes the moveon.org responsible for the ads to everyone everywhere except to Kerry apologists such as Congressman Adler).<<== And, when asked why John Kerry didn't speak with the Swift Boat Veterans himself and respond to the issues raised by the Swift Boat Veterans (instead of insisting that President Bush do so instead), the Congressman blurted out, “why should he (Kerry) get down in the gutter with a pack of liars like that.”
Disgusting. But the actual sentiments by most among Democrats about these veterans starting to coalesce, their flowery campaign adjectives and avoidances now baked away under closer examination and public scrutiny: the vets are “in the gutter” and are “a pack of liars.”
Well, no they aren’t and they aren’t but they are and they are, clearly, to the Kerry apologists.
